“I had been working with an excellent massage therapist for over a year when she suggested that I see Dr. Ramke. I had seen another chiropractor years earlier who hadn’t helped me with the issues that I had at that time, so I was a little skeptical about seeing Dr. Ramke. Due to a movement disorder similar to Parkinson’s disease, my muscles often tighten to the point of pulling bones and joints into places they shouldn’t be. “I was born with a rare bone disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), more commonly referred to as the ‘brittle bone disease.’ As a result of my weakened skeletal frame, I am prone to bone fractures, about 40 of them in my first 40 years of life. Some of these fractures ‘healed’ out of place, causing a chronic and sometimes unbearable burning pain in my back. In an attempt to manage the pain, I developed such a high tolerance to pain killers and muscle relaxers that even 6 to 8 pills a day were ineffective. I was desperate.
The only problem was my orthopedic doctor stated that under no uncertain terms was I to allow a chiropractor to touch me. He said the results of being ‘physically manipulated’ could be devastating to someone with brittle bones.
